Behavioral Health Counselor I         Job Code: 302   SUMMARY: The Munson Behavioral Health Counselor 1 is a member of the behavioral health team and works with patients who experience substance use and / or mental health disorders. The Behavioral Health Counselor 1 is responsible for supporting patients, coordinating patient care or wider behavioral health initiatives, and representing behavioral health throughout the hospital and wider community. Education and Experience EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Min/Preferred Education Level Years of Experience Comments Required 4 Year / Bachelors Degree BA / BS Preferred Master's Level Training and Limited License Preferred – OUTPATIENT ONLY Substance use disorder recovery and a willingness to share their recovery story as a tool in helping others Minimum 2 continuous years in substance use disorder recovery CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION Minimum           CPR/AED Certification                                               Inpatient Only – Possess or obtain CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire. Minimum           Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor or                   Outpatient Only – CADC, CAADC or the                              Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug                         ability to obtain the credential and Counselor                                                                    meet all requirements with the 3 year                                                 time frame. Previous Substance Use Disorder work experience preferred. Essential Duties
  • Participates in delivering individualized treatment to patients.
  • Co-facilitate or lead psychoeducation groups and / or skills and activities.
  • Gather clinical information to be included in assessments, level of care determinations, and treatment recommendations.
  • Completes all types of patient documentation in a professional and timely manner.
  • Demonstrates competency through the patient evaluation, clinical staff dialogue, performance appraisals and staff education.
  • Communicates with other members of the healthcare team through case reviews, clinical documentation and conferencing to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance and performance improvement programs, safety, environmental and infections control standards.
  • Maintains effective communications with patients, families, colleagues, and leadership as evidence by mutual support, open communication, and trust.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and ability to effectively respond to behavioral health crises and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Promotes good public relations with department personnel, physicians, health professionals, work groups, patient families community partners and other referral sources to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced, patient care is optimized, and available resources utilized.
  • Maintains communication, documentation, and follow up for committees, workgroups, stakeholders, and projects through emails and status reports.
  • May coordinate, plan, and implement behavioral health initiatives working with hospital staff, health departments and other community partners.
  • May represent Munson Healthcare on behavioral health related committees and task forces in the community.
  • May provide recovery resources and training for healthcare staff focused on multiple pathways and best practices.
  • May coordinate and facilitate meetings for healthcare staff, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development be attending required in-services and other means of continuing professional education. OUTPATIENT ONLY – Employee must maintain CADC / CAADC certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  Reports To Works as a member of the treatment team and is under the supervision of the Manager. May also receive directions from the Practice Manager, Practice Administrator, or other members of the leadership team.   Organizational Expectations
