Job Summary: The Sonographer Echocardiology functions in a large tertiary academic Children's Hospital with level one trauma designation. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to proficiently perform quality diagnostic sonography examinations in an Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) accredited echocardiography lab. Utilizes various cardiac imaging modalities which include, but are not limited to, 2D, 3D, M-mode, Doppler, color flow, transesophageal, and stress echo. Clarifies examination orders as needed and pursues information necessary for the successful completion of the exam by regularly conferring with the physician or other sonographers with more experience as deemed appropriate. Connects advanced theoretical concepts (ultrasound physics, cardiac anatomy, physiology, cardiac abnormalities, disease processes, and machine technology) to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in cardiac function and cardiac diagnostic examination and procedures. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Abides by service excellence best practices to improve the patient, family and visitor experience and performance scores. Demonstrates expertise in service recovery methodologies and capably resolves issues expressed from dissatisfied customers. Exhibits behaviors that contribute to a highly motivated and high-performance team and displays professionalism in behavior, dress and conversation. May be required to participate in on-call rotation based on department business need. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Successful completion of an accredited CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) ultrasound program.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated competencies in echocardiography examinations of various kinds required. Knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills. Able to read, write legibly, speak in English (and Spanish preferred) in person, in writing, and on the telephone with professional quality; use computer, printer, fax, software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to relate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise students, teach and collaborate; accept direction. Able to think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Uses independent judgment and initiative. Ability to hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with American Registry For Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in appropriate sub-specialty of department placement (adult echocardiology or pediatric echocardiology) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) board in appropriate sub-specialty of department placement (adult echocardiology or pediatric echocardiology) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
