Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Counselor to join our team at the Glenmont Job Corps Center. The Counselor will be responsible for counseling students in all aspects of center life including personal and career counseling. Employee maintains an assigned caseload and maintains the student's counseling record. Promptly responds to requests for counseling. Conducts individual and group counseling. As well as demonstrates an on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and the operating principles.
  • Assists students in adjusting to Center life to enhance student retention by providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and by acting as a positive role model and mentor.
  • Meets individually with students assigned to their area responsibility at a minimum of once each month.
    • Assesses and evaluates continuously those students assigned to them on both formal and informal levels. Provides assistance to students in continuing their education or entering into additional training; and in connecting with community services necessary for successful transition from school to work. Additionally, Documents student counseling sessions in counseling records and in CIS case notes.
  • Submits written student reports and evaluations as needed for: Center Director request, Review Board referrals, Student referrals to the Mental Health Consultant and TEAP Specialist, Proper requests from outside agencies, Career Development, ESP and CTR panels
  • Participates in the training of all staff; especially in individual and group counseling techniques, Facilitates small group counseling, and provides counseling related assistance as needed to all other staff functions within the Center.
  • Develops a close working relationship with the Center Mental Health Consultant. Including Participates in weekly joint sessions with resident counselors and the Center Mental Health Consultant,
  • Conducts UA retrieval efforts within 24 hours and documents all efforts on UA retrieval form which is forwarded and social intake interview for new enrollees soon after arrival, but no later than 48 hours (CPP only).
  • Adheres to all PRH and CMG policies and procedures, and the Center Operating Procedures. Including:
    • Prepares reports and forms and documents in CIS case notes and files observations of student's behavior, performance, notable information or events, and progress towards achieving goals and objectives.
    • Maintains confidentiality but reports significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff, and to ensure that required reporting occurs, and that students receive emergency services as needed.
    • Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, or emotional trauma. Meets individually with students assigned to their area responsibility at a minimum of once each month documenting the meetings in the student's counseling record.
    • Ensures equipment and assigned work areas are clean and maintained in accordance with Center, CMG, and DOL standards. Conducts quarterly property count of their office, submits property relocation requests as needed, may serve as a property custodian. Submits maintenance requests as needed.
    • Conducts Evaluations of Student's Progress (ESP) and submits appropriate reports
    • Participates in CPP, diversity program, and development of employability plans for students.

Qualifications:

Minimum: Bachelor's degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction), and one year experience in counseling or related fields.

Preferred: Master's degree in counseling, social work or a closely related field. Job Corps or similar experience working with disadvantaged youth preferred.

Knowledge RequiredSound knowledge of counseling techniques, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, knowledge of characteristics and problems of disadvantaged youth, must maintain CPR/FA certification.
