Summary:

At Vighter, we take pride in partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to deliver compassionate healthcare services to our nation's veterans. We are seeking dedicated Certified Surgical Technicians (Surge Techs) to join our team and provide exceptional care at various VA facilities throughout the Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs, and Lakewood, CO Metropolitan area, including:
  • Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, (Aurora, CO)
  • PFC Floyd K. Lindstrom VA Outpatient Clinic- Surgery & Specialty, Aurora and Colorado Springs, CO.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are sterile and in proper working order.
  • Assist the surgical team during procedures by providing instruments, supplies, and sterile materials as required.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and respond promptly during the surgical procedure.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and monitor aseptic techniques.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of sharps and bio-hazardous materials.
  • Assist with the preparation and positioning of patients for surgery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of operative procedures, supplies used, and patient information.
  • Collaborate with the OR team to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and care.
  • Clean and restock the operating room following surgery and ensure that equipment is properly maintained.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and follow all safety protocols.
  • Provide patient education on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment options.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in compliance with Vighter and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Maintain the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Association's Bill of Rights for patients.
  • All services shall be provided by established standards, principles, and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity is recognized.
  • All Health Care Providers will document care delivered and follow-up care required.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain a specific level of knowledge of new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
Specialty Surgical Technologist - All the qualifications of the Surgical Technologist, plus:
  • Have 12 months of continuous experience within the past three years.
  • Decontaminate and clean reusable equipment and/or supplies and associated storage units in accordance with the department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards.
  • Assemble, store, and distribute reusable medical equipment and/or supplies for patient care.
  • Round assigned areas to ensure equipment and/or supplies and storage units are maintained in a timely manner.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of equipment/supply processing.
  • Adheres to proper infection control and safety practices. Ensures proper handling of instruments and equipment to prevent damage or loss.
  • Monitors for equipment and/or supplies in need of repair or replacement and notifies appropriate department personnel.
Experience & Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Specialty Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
  • Has completed a qualifying course of study as an operating room technician.
  • Has been actively performing both scrubs and circulating functions within the operating room.
  • Knowledge of sterile processing techniques and aseptic procedures.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
  • Has documented training and skills verification.
Qualifications
  • Must have and maintain one of the following certifications: Basic Life Support for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association®, CPR for the professional rescuer through the American Red Cross or the American Safety and Health Institute.
  • Minimum of 1 (one) year within the last three years of experience as a Surgical Tech.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine.
  • Ability to work independently while being a collaborative team player.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

These KSA are both requirements but also things that will help you to be successful with Vighter and the facility where you will work:
  • Ability to organize workload and use effective time management.

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Verbal and written proficiency in English. Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish (preferred, not required).
  • Ability to navigate an electronic work environment, electronic health records, web-based training, and electronic communications.
  • Moderate proficiency in common Microsoft Office Suite programs, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Functional proficiency and ability to document patient-centered health care in the required electronic health record or electronic medical record, in the required format, in a timely manner, and in compliance with contract policy and guidance.
  • A deep sense of purpose and dedication to the United States and our U.S. Military Veterans, their Families, and other patients as assigned.
  • Occasional schedule flexibility with a desired end state of 100% staffing and 100% service to the patients that we provide care to.

  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Duty Hours / On-call Requirements
  • Generally speaking, VAMCs are open 24/7/365. Surgical Clinics are typically day shift, but emergent surgeries are 24/7/365.
This position requires rotational on-call duties and may necessitate return to the facility to provide care.
  • This position requires availability to work both day and evening shifts. Availability during weekends and holidays is a possibility. Advanced notice will be provided for scheduling purposes.
  • We try our best to accommodate your schedule, so please inform Vighter of your desired schedule and/or geographic limitations in advance.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day.
  • Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry up to 10 feet.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must undergo urine drug screening (UDS).
  • Most positions require a Tuberculosis skin test and an up-to-date immunization record.

  • The provider shall possess the required qualification/elements to be privileged and/or credentialed in accordance with the VetPro, background checks, fingerprinting, badging, annual fit testing, and pre-employment and annual drug testing.
  • The contractor's credentials/qualifications are subject to review by VAMC Staff. These qualifications at a minimum will be based on Joint Commission (JC), or equivalent, quality standards for training, education, and competency.
