SUMMARY:
Provides a complete array of services to students with identified communication problems, including students whose primary disability is "speech-language impairment" and students with other primary disabilities who have needs in the area of communication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
  • Performs pre-referral consultations to general and special education teachers.
  • Oversees case management for students with speech-language impairments.
  • Performs due process compliance, third-party billing, program data collection, and funding reports.
  • Works to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in students.
  • Completes evaluations that consist of comprehensive initial and reevaluations for all types of communication disabilities.
  • Oversees standard-referred IEPs and IIIPs (intervention that supports literacy and other standards).
  • Performs direct intervention services to students in the least restrictive environment (include classroom-based service).
  • Performs indirect intervention and consultative services to teams, teachers and parents.
  • Performs other site-based and special education duties, including support of district literacy goals.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, or a closely related field.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
  • Driver's license.
  • Minnesota teaching license in Speech-Language Pathology.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Required Knowledge:
  • District policies and procedures.
  • Relevant and accurate resources and tools for speech language development.
  • Principles, practices, and ethical standards of speech language.
  • Laws, codes and regulations related to assignments.
  • Disabilities and accommodations.
