The Corrections Licensed Practical Nurse works in close andimmediate contact with adults and children in custody on a daily basisproviding general and emergency nursing care in the Medical and Ambulatorysection of the Corrections Facility while maintaining facility securitystandards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, treat andevaluate the patient/inmate

  • Integrates and implements referrals of inmates to the staffphysician, nurse practitioner, dentist, mental health professional

  • Looks for signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient’s condition and reports to RN and/orphysician

  • Collaborates with RN regarding the plan of care according toevaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursinginterventions

  • Documents patient’s response to nursing and otherinterventions

  • Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipment

  • Participates in infection control activities as directed byInfection Control Coordinator and/or nursing supervisor

  • Participates in the orientation and continuing education ofstaff as applicable

  • Participates in the Health Quality Improvement Program asapplicable

  • Adheres to all facility policy and procedure

  • Follow security guidelines and protocol on tools/sharpscounts and ingress/egress policies at all times

  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possesses a current Practical Nursing License in theapplicable state

  • Minimum of one year experience in Corrections preferred

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
