New Bedford Community Health (NBCH) is a fast-paced federally qualified Community Health Center dedicated to advancing preventive and holistic health through innovative, compassionate and evidenced-based care. Our mission is to deliver integrated dental, medical, and mental health outpatient care to the diverse and underserved patient populations in New Bedford.
The Dentist will examine patients, review medical histories, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide appropriate treatment and education to the patient. The Dentist will document treatment appropriately in the Electronic Health Record and follow the Health Center's policies and procedures regarding quality care and compliance.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a dentist who is passionate about dental wellness and understands as well as values the unique perspectives and dental health needs of underserved patient populations.
Key Tasks & Qualifications
- Provide general dental treatments, including, but not limited to examinations of all types (periodic, comprehensive, limited/emergency), prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, simple extractions, limited surgical extractions, removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, single canal endodontic treatment, implant restoration, amalgam and composite and glass ionomer restorative treatments, sealants, prescription of medications, oral hygiene instructions, and counseling
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and provide appropriate dental care to patients of all ages
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of dental treatment plans
- Work collaboratively with the other Dental Department staff including, but not limited to dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental receptionists, dental director, sterilization staff, dental practice manager, registration supervisor, and the other dentists
- Provide and facilitate patient and/or family participation in educational opportunities related to dental health status and utilize additional resources when indicated to ensure patients and/or families make informed decisions
- Maintain accurate, legible, and timely (within 2 business days) documentation of patient encounters in the dental EMR (Dentrix) and promptly (within 1 business day) respond to all inquiries, emails, internal messaging (Microsoft Teams, cellular text messages, etc.)
- Work closely with the Dental Director and Practice Manager to address problems as they arise in daily schedules as well as emergent patient care
- Collaborate and coordinate dental care with other NBCH departments such as PCPs, mental health providers, OBAT providers, NBCH staff, as well as external referral providers
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities including but not limited to ACO initiatives, quality standards and goals, NBHC policies, and HIPPA/OSHA standards
- Current Massachusetts Full or Limited Dental License
- Active DEA & Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration
- At least one (1) year practice experience
- Commitment and interest in working with multi-cultural and impoverished populations
- Excellent team building & interpersonal skills
- Experience in community and public health (preferred)
