Job Description

Johnson Service Group is looking for Temporary Accountant to work in the Financial Services Department. The Temporary Accountant will report to the Controller, and perform professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records, and reports.

This is a full-time assignment from March 2025 to September 2025. Schedule will be Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch, but is flexible depending upon the final candidate's scheduling needs.

Ideal Candidates will have:

  • Experience as an Accountant in a government setting
  • Experience maintaining accuracy of general ledgers and subsidiary financial systems
  • Experience preparing journal entries for a variety of accounts
  • Experience performing month end reconciliations
  • Experience reviewing Accounts Payable

Example of Duties:

  • Performs a variety of professional accounting functions supporting District-wide operations; maintains accuracy of general, revenue and expenditure ledgers and subsidiary financial systems.
  • Prepares journal entries for a variety of accounts and makes adjustments as necessary; analyzes monthly financial statements and researches any major variances month to month.
  • Reconciles financial ledgers and records; prepares financial statements and reports, general and subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules; researches and resolves discrepancies.
  • Prepares, reviews and gathers all documents for the interim and annual audit; conducts semi-annual surprise inspections of the district's petty cash, audit logbooks, and receipts; prepares lead sheet and schedule for the auditors.
  • Performs project accounting; processes all aspects of job costing for customer and District jobs; creates and sets-up new projects in system; ensures information and data is entered into job costing system including labor, overhead, inventory, and use of equipment; prepares journal entries and posts to general ledger; reconciles WIP accounts to job costing; bills and refunds monies for projects as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains fixed asset records; posts invoices to capital purchase account; tracks capital purchases for the year; sets up purchases in fixed assets system; coordinates tagging of assets as necessary. Prepares and updates fixed assets spreadsheet; ensures account balances agree with general ledger balances.
  • Provide responsible staff assistance to the Controller; provides analytical and administrative support to special projects; research, compiles, and reports data for special projects.

Education

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible accounting experience.
