Position Summary:

We are seeking a Bilingual Community Health Educator to conduct health education and outreach in Spanish and English to patient groups. The ideal candidate will organize and conduct patient education courses in the area of designated patient care and ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Communicating with qualified clients and inviting them to participate in the program
  • Serving as a department liaison with clients and departments and outside agencies, providing quality customer service
  • Coordinating patient care with appropriate staff such as pharmacy and specialty clinics
  • Participating in planning, preparation and facilitation of client education, training and exercises as assigned
  • Providing information and support to patients, clients, and families by performing outreach to the community, receiving client referrals, conducting or assisting in educational efforts and responding to requests for support and guidance
  • Assisting patients in achieving wellness by providing nutrition counseling, parenting education and support and training in the use of medication and supplies
  • Increasing program visibility by performing outreach to the community and participating in community education initiatives
  • Reporting potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses in a timely manner

Qualifications:

  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License
  • UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit within 60 days

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Must be subject to random alcohol and substance testing and ineligible for interpreter stipend.
