Job Duties and Responsibilities

A VMWare Engineer at Dish Wireless will focus on VMWare cloud-native environments, enhancing automated recovery and zero-touch provisioning using tools such as Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, and Jenkins.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers and new team members while tackling challenging programming and design issues
  • Design highly available and fault-tolerant VMware infrastructure solutions
  • Establish standards and guidelines for VMware infrastructure design, tuning, deployment, maintenance, backups, upgrades, and automation processes
  • Proactively identify and recommend software updates or architectural improvements to prevent capacity limitations
  • Develop automated incident response mechanisms to minimize the need for manual intervention
  • Advocate for system metrics such as MTBF and MTTR, regularly communicating them to decision-makers
  • Manage issue priority and participate in an on-call rotation schedule with team members, including weekends

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of proficiency with VMware services and tools through hands-on experience

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in bare-metal deployments of VMware infrastructure
  • Proficient in building and administering multiple VMware products across various remote locations and data centers
  • Skilled in programming using languages such as Java, C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, or advanced Shell scripting

Salary Ranges

Compensation: $110,100.00/Year - $170,000.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
