Pharmacy Buyer

The Pharmacy Buyer assists end-users in researching and purchasing best value products and services to ensure the proper needs and goals of the organization are met. Maintains accurate and timely processing of all purchase order transactions through Materials Management Systems, Prime Vendor Information Systems and Purchasing Card Systems to ensure timely receipt and payment. Processes purchase orders to provide goods and services to our customers and provides accurate and timely reports to assist clinical and non-clinical departments with decision support information.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with GPO and Inova Health System specific contracts at all times.
- Ensures that pricing, availability and approximate delivery dates are given to end-users on a daily basis or at the time of ordering.
- Ensures a successful quarterly inventory.
- Takes ownership for the maintenance and cleanliness of the Drug Storage area (i.e. refrigerators, freezers, explosion-proof cabinet, etc.).
- Reconciles pharmaceutical purchases for pre-payment statements while providing usage reports for customers.
- Updates the Primary Vendor Information System and verifies and submits invoices to Accounts Receivable.
- Submits copies of invoices to verify and confirm PC statements.
- Processes purchase orders within 24 - 48 hours of receipt.
- Maintains proper telephone etiquette and ensures that vendors meet customer expectations.
- Resolves conflicts and follows-up as required.
- Minimizes shortages by seeking available alternatives.
- Processes out of date item returns via contract agents in a timely manner, processes credit to prime vendor weekly, and processes all received items to their designated location within Pharmacy on a daily basis.
- Orders controlled substances via C-II safe estimates or other modes while utilizing DEA guidelines.
- Ensures that accurate report information regarding products, pricing and usage are supplied to end-users as requested and ensures that all recall information is communicated to the appropriate departments and/or other personnel as needed.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Certification - Certified Pharmacy Technician; Basic Life Support within 3 months for new hires and current team members within 6 months of 9/12/2023Licensure - None RequiredExperience - 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician including buying experience in a pharmacy settingEducation - High School diploma or equivalent
