Job Description

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the Radiology Director, the incumbent will perform technical duties within Radiology. The incumbent is directly involved with various imaging procedures using Ultrasound, and incumbents may perform additional assignments as required per department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Ultrasound Technologist II is charged with and responsible for:
• Use sonographic equipment to identify and observe the area(s) of concern.
• Report to the appropriate medical staff any abnormalities that require immediate attention.
• Review the Control Sheet for pertinent clinical data before the sonographic examination.
• Review the Control Sheet for relevant clinical data before the sonographic study.
• Ensures proper supplies and equipment operation.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines.
• Adheres to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Adheres to the departmental attendance policy.
• According to team leader requirements, maintain room inventory and equipment checklist at the beginning of each shift before patients enter the room.
• Review Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and/or other documentation to confirm the following:
• The correct patient is present for a given examination.
• To confirm that physicians' orders are accurate and appropriate. If conflicts occur regarding the patient's history/symptoms, the technologist should seek advice from the ordering physician or a radiologist.
• Assures all documentation regarding informed consent, the universal protocol/time-out checklist, lab results, etc., is completed before examination.
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper patient positioning, imaging technique, and equipment setting, producing high-quality images.
• Excellent knowledge of imaging protocol is necessary to accommodate any variations due to patient conditions.
• Seeking advice from radiologist as needed.
• Demonstrates a clear understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Evaluates exam for technical accuracy and confirms that completed examinations are delivered to the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).
• Documents the completion of each examination as required by departmental protocol ensures that all reports created by the radiologists can be seen globally throughout the organization.
• All other duties as assigned by the department.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Completion of a Sonography or Ultrasound training program from an accredited school.

Department Preferences
• Understanding Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Knowledge of entering and retrieving patient information from the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS).
• Skills in performing route Ultrasound imaging.
