JOB SUMMARY: The incumbent shall be responsible for providing a full range of speech-language pathology services including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in a team environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices, and ethical standards. The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible team fashion.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- Graduate of a Master's level program in speech-language pathology which is either accredited by the Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet ASHA certification requirements.
- Possess current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA or be CCC eligible, and hold a current state license as applicable.
- Education/experience in working with an adult and geriatric population is necessary.
- Education/experience with an outpatient program/services and pediatric/adolescent populations is desirable.
- BLS required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attends/presents at program inservice sessions as scheduled.
Attends external professional growth activities as scheduled and communicates information to the team.
Assists program director in identifying educational needs of team and implements corresponding inservice sessions.
Adjusts personal schedule to meet needs of program when requested.
Protects patient confidentiality at all times.
Communicates professionally with various publics as evidenced by customer/client satisfaction.
Is familiar with and acts according to contents of applicable professional code, company SOP/handbook, program P&P, and hospital policies.
Attends and participates in community educational/promotional activities as requested.
Makes positive contribution to interdepartmental rapport and working relationships.
Applicable licenses/certifications and memberships are current.
Patient assessment is completed and in the medical record as outlined in policy and procedure. Data is recorded in the appropriate areas.
Functional short and long term goals are written objectively and are measurable.
a. Time frame for goal achievement is documented.
b. Interventions are selected based on assessment results and are appropriate for age of the patient as evidenced by goal achievement.
c. Consults with physician regarding referrals for other services as needed.
Therapeutic interventions result in positive outcomes as judged by quality improvement studies and patient satisfaction.
Demonstrates safety, competency, proficiency in all department modalities and equipment operations.
Uses positive feedback to promote patient participation in their rehabilitation program.
Formalized and goal directed educational/training activities are provided based on individual needs.
Staff members are consulted to coordinate therapeutic activities/interventions as indicated.
Patient response to the treatment plan is evaluated as evidenced by patient achievement of goals and/or goal revision, the treatment plan is updated as needed, or as defined in policy.
Information is provided to patient/family regarding current status, program planning and completion throughout the rehabilitation process.
Document the course of patient care including progress made and continuing need for treatment.
- a. Interventions and effects are documented daily according to policy and procedure.
- b. Interim progress notes are completed according to policy and procedure.
- c. Discharge summaries are completed according to policy and procedure.
Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources that will assist with continued functional independence.
Function as a resource for and provide team members with inservice/cross-training on Speech-Language Pathology knowledge and skill areas.
a. Attends inservice sessions.
b. Leads inservice sessions as requested/volunteered.
c. Orients other staff to the Speech-Language Pathology functions of the rehab department.
Attends team business meetings and offers ideas/solutions in problem solving situations/activities regarding the program.
Contribute to development of improved efficiency and productivity of program clinical/administrative functions.
- a. Assists in planning and evaluation sessions with other rehab staff with focus on program development, organization and communication and program growth.
- b. Offers positive suggestions/solutions to improve service delivery and program operations.
- c. Contributes to and cooperates with the implementation of system improvements.
- d. Offers to assist other staff and is flexible in carrying out shared team functions including special projects.
Communicate and demonstrate a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, coworkers and others.
