Job Description
The Certified Surgical First Assistant-(CV) anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Provides assistance to the surgeon by aiding in exposure, hemostasis, closing the incision, and other technical functions that assist the surgeon to carry out a safe operation. The Certified Surgical First Assistant will assist all surgical specialty teams/ surgeons.

Essential Functions
- Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
- Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
- Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
- Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
- Ability to work flexible and long hours. Call required on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Knowledge of an ability to apply AORN recommended practices.

Minimum Education
- Graduate of an approved program for surgical technicians or graduate of a military training program in surgical technology with a high school diploma or GED.
Licenses/Certifications
- BLS Required
- Certified as a Certified Surgical Technician (CST)
- Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Surgical First Assisting Program (SFA)
- Certified as a Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA)
