The Manager of Continuing Education is responsible for the leadership, management and supervision of the department. The Manager assesses the needs of the community’s professional workforce, develops training to meet those needs, and implements effective training programs that will be accessible to the public via open enrollment options. The Manager also coordinates with various college offices and articulates its goals and objectives college wide. Further responsibilities include the development and management of innovative programs and courses that might have credit bearing potential that would generate sufficient revenue to meet the strategic and financial goals of the department. Summary of Essential Functions Strategic Leadership and Planning: 40% Develops, implements and directs objectives for department in support of the missions of the professional development, personal enrichment, and any future continuing educational programs of the college. Creates, tracks, reports and directs progress towards annual department goals in support of CLC’s Strategic Pillars. Assesses data on employment trends in the region, benchmarks curriculum, gains stakeholder input, analyzes enrollment and evaluates student feedback. Adjusts department strategy and administers modifications in response to findings. Directs evaluation and analysis of current and forthcoming programming to inform all marketing efforts. Oversees semester schedule creation, manages course content in shared College software systems and directs partnership with Marketing and PR offices to inform print and web advertising. Designs department systems, policies and procedures managing the development and/or implementation of all products, services, tools and platforms to support progress towards goals. Department Operations and Procedures: 20% Directs all financial decisions for the department, employing tactics to control expenses and offer profitable programming in order to meet revenue goals. Creates, amends and implements department budgets of approximately $500,000 based on performance analysis and alignment to annual College strategies. Provides financial performance forecasts and quarterly evaluative reports to Community Programs leadership. Initiates scholarship, grant, and other financial opportunities as appropriate to the department. Oversees selection, application, administration and evaluation of fund dispersal in partnership with associated granting institutions and College offices. Management and Supervision: 40% Directs part-time and full-time staff, instructors and volunteers to plan, develop, coordinate, execute and evaluate open-enrollment courses. Establishes and adapts performance measures, seeking opportunities for individual professional development and overall advancement of the department. Supervises support staff, maintaining and communicating updated office and College-wide information while overseeing student-centered approaches to phone, email, and in-person inquiries. Manages escalated concerns from general public, current or prospective students and campus community members. Directs appropriate vetting process to recruit and engage adjunct faculty, independent contractors and volunteers committed to teaching and learning excellence in noncredit coursework. Negotiates salaries and fees, follows and manages established College guidelines, and evaluates pedagogical techniques and course materials for content applicability to related programs. Maintains regular involvement in daily administration of department, overseeing individual program elements to model and supplement staff responsibilities. Fosters department activities with appropriate College of Lake County leadership and pursues, evaluates and directs collaborations. Identifies and executes noncredit paths to existing and developing credit-bearing curriculum, offering seamless transitions for diverse student populations. Establishes and upholds partnerships with relevant community agencies focused on economic development of Lake County. Initiates and maintains relationships with stakeholders connected to current and planned programs, instituting Advisory Boards and direct involvement where appropriate. Obtains appropriate licensing, certification and approval of current and future programs from recognized boards and agencies empowered to establish and ensure training standards are met and maintained. Represents department and serves as a catalyst for advancement of student, business and community economic development on various groups including, but not limited to: Community Programs Leadership, CLC Leadership Council, and on internal and external committees, boards and professional organizations.
