Licensed Professional Counselor

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing counseling sessions to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally
  • Conducting interviews with students, family members, and school personnel
  • Maintaining regular contact with students' parents/guardians
  • Developing and updating Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIP)
  • Attending and participating in IEP team meetings
  • Collaborating with education and social services professionals
  • Providing case management functions for students
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents/guardians, district personnel, and services providers
  • Ensuring the use of positive teaching methods
  • Assessing student progress through consistent review of classroom data collection
  • Functioning as a role model for effective teaching of students

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in educational counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work or a closely related field
  • Meet all state and district requirements for appropriate school counselor licensing and/or credentials
  • Minimum 2yrs prior experience working with individuals with emotional disorders and/or challenging behaviors in an education setting
  • Prior experience working in an alternative or special education program setting highly preferred
  • Advanced oral and written communication, instruction, conflict resolution, and decision making ability
