Job Description Summary

A staff physician responsible for providing care in a primary care setting primarily gynecological and sexual health services to students and other patients of the Student Health and Counseling. Primary care support is also required. Strong clinical skills and ability to manage a busy appointment schedule are a requirement. Individual must be familiar with a multicultural and diverse patient population. Candidate must be willing to work collaboratively, cooperatively and efficiently with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other allied health professionals. Position is required to maintain a weekly schedule including evenings and weekends and a rotating on schedule.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct medical care, primarily gynecologic and sexual health to students; this includes routine exams, acute care visits, continuity of care, evaluation of injuries, and occupational exposures (clinical students).

  • Manage students with complex health conditions. Refer students to appropriate specialty or hospital care with follow up communications.

  • Participate in weekend and evening shifts, as well as back-up to RN-run after-hours service.

  • Perform administrative tasks including complete records and patient correspondence; participate in performance improvement projects and outreach activities.

  • Opportunities for on-site resident and student teaching.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO, 3 to 5 years of experience, and board certification or board eligible (certification required within the first 3 years of employment) or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Board certification in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics or preferable.

  • Previous experience in a primary care setting preferred.

  • Current license to practice in Pennsylvania, DEA certification.

  • Must be eligible for appointment in Department of Medicine or Family Practice at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Familiarization with electronic health record system preferred (Epic).

  • Criminal background check required.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals, exhibit appropriate sensitivity to others, and interface effectively with students, University staff and physicians, and University administrators.

  • Expertise in Adolescent Health, Gynecological and Reproductive Health, Mental and Emotional Health, LGBTQ health and/or eating concerns strongly preferred.

  • Candidates must be willing to work a weekly in office schedule including evenings and Saturdays as well as participate in an on-call schedule. During the academic year this is one (1) evening per week and one (1) Saturday per month.
