Job Summary

Provide advanced ECG while concentrating on monitoring patient status through assessment of ECG strips and arrhythmia interpretation. Possess troubleshooting skills to recognize monitoring the problems, identify probable causes, and seek solutions to correct the problem. Identify and responds to potentially life-threatening rhythm changes, initiate codes, record rhythms during code, continuous EKG monitoring with accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias and interval measurements. Appropriately responding to all monitor alarms.

Essential Functions

  • Admission of patients to monitoring system.
  • Lead II strip recognition, measurement and documentation.
  • Pacer recognition, implantable defibrillator.
  • Establish exact parameters, warnings, code situations and lead identification.
  • Discharge of patients from monitoring system.
  • Maintain logbook (code documentation).
  • Trouble shoots system failures and communicates to Biomed.
  • Communicate with patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital staff effectively.
  • Take inventory for ordering of specific supplies, paper, batteries, etc.
  • Performs all other duties as required.

Minimum Education/Certifications
  • High School graduate.
  • 6 months experience as a Telemetry Technician or EKG technician preferred, or on-site training with completion and fulfillment of competency requirements for electrocardiography, EKG rhythm interpretation and CPR (BLS).
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed

  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
