The Occupational Therapist wiil conduct evaluations for Public Schools of Brookline students from preschool through 12th grade, and will provide OT services to high school students and 18-22 year old students.

  • The ideal candidate will be a licensed Occupational Therapist with strong skills and ability to administer OT evaluations; comprehensive, insightful diagnostic skills: ability to interpret a variety of informal and formal OT assessments; knowledge of specific approaches and tools to help students, teachers and families better address with all factors which interfere with the learning process; experience working collaboratively to address student needs; experience writing IEPs and collaborating in IEP meetings; comprehensive knowledge and understanding of child development; a strong understanding when further evaluations may be beneficial; ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies to support student learning; appreciation for students from diverse family and socio-economic situations; strong written and verbal communication skills; an open-mind, sense of humor and the ability to calmly approach stressful situations.

    Occupational Therapist duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Responsible for evaluating and supporting students with special needs in fine motor skill development, visual motor skills development, visual perception training, handwriting instruction, sensory integration approaches including development and implementation of sensory diets and daily living skills.
    • Strong, comprehensive written OT evaluation reports and verbal reporting
    • Additional job requirements include IEP development, progress reporting, attendance at IEP meetings, consultation with staff, and communicating with parents.
    • Participation in special education Team meetings, school mental health, crisis response team and/or counseling team
    • Team meeting facilitation if necessary, which may include: facilitating the IEP Team process and all necessary and relevant procedures
    • Consultation with school administration, team facilitators, school psychologist, BCBA, SLP, PT, general ed. and special educators
    • Involvement and consultation around behavioral interventions and plans
    • Consultation to parents/guardians
    OTHER SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Attend department meetings
    • Participate with colleagues as a contributing member of the school community and contribute to school effectiveness
    • Be actively involved in professional development (i.e. courses, workshops and in-service training) in order to be current in new methods and approaches in special education as well as to expand knowledge of the general education curriculum for students receiving services
    • Fulfill other OT service delivery needs as assigned by Director of Special Education
    • Reports to: Director of Special Education
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum
  • Certification as an occupational therapistwith an Applied Health license
