School Counselor (10-month faculty position)

Loyola Academy is a Jesuit, Catholic college preparatory school committed to forming women and men for others in service to the Church and the world. The School Counselor will:
  • Provide counseling to students that fosters their development, helps in the formation of the whole student and expresses a care for the person.
  • Design, teach and evaluate a comprehensive and developmental school counseling curriculum on a daily basis as part of the Formation Program, which is a social emotional learning class that students attend once a week.
  • Work proactively to identify the educational needs of students and recommend possible MTMDSS to meet those needs.
  • Meet with students to develop academic plans and communicate curricular knowledge for course registration.
  • Utilize knowledge of mental health to respond to crisis situations and make referrals.
  • Write letters of recommendation for their senior students applying for college admissions.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 160 students
Necessary Skills

The School Counselor should possess the following skills:
  • Ability to create trusting relationships with teens and help identify barriers to success in school. A counselor will utilize knowledge and experience with adolescent development, mental health issues, and college admission practices to meet student needs.
  • Ability to contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Lesson Planning and classroom management skills - curriculum includes academic, social-emotional and college-career topics
  • Ability to clearly and consistently communicate and collaborate with students, families, colleagues, teachers and outside support. This includes possible presentations to stakeholders requiring support.
  • This position requires excellent time management, organizational, technological and communication skills as well as a high degree of energy.
Education | Professional Requirements

Qualified applicants will have:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in school counseling or related field, Master's Degree is preferred.
  • A School Counseling Certification (Type 73) is preferred.

A minimum of two years of experience in a high school setting or its equivalent.
