Summary

Under the direction of Anesthesia and according to Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) protocols, delivers primary health and medical care within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner as defined by the Advanced Nurse Practice Act. Job requires knowledge; skill and ability to provide care to a patient population as defined by the specific specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains medical, family, and social histories from patients and parents of patients assigned.
  • Assesses patients, interprets diagnostic tests, and initiates and manages treatment plans including prescribing medications when applicable.
  • Performs physical examinations. Recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessment and works in collaboration with Anesthesia and Surgeon to develop necessary treatment plans.
  • Completes focused H&P in alignment with Anesthesia requirements.
  • Authenticates findings, reports, and plans in the medical record appropriate detail.
  • Provides patient education opportunities for individuals and/or families utilizing additional resources when necessary.
  • Facilitates patient participation in health care by providing information needed to make decisions and choices about promotion, maintenance and restoration of health and appropriate utilization of health care resources.
  • Participates as an interdisciplinary team member to provide coordinated care within the PAT department and with other health care providers and agencies.
  • Evaluates effectiveness and efficiency of care and participates in quality improvement activities as a team member to improve the value of care provided.
  • Understands and provides leadership in the quality and utilization management processes.
  • Pursues professional growth through participation in continuing education programs, reading professional literature, and sharing experiences with colleagues.
  • Responsible for ensuring the personal performance reflects the Mission, Vision, Standards of Behavior, and the Service Goals.
Requirements
  • Demonstrates clinical skill, knowledge, and judgments necessary to provide specialty specific care within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner as defined by the Advanced Nurse Practice Act.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care for patient population as defined by specific specialty under direction of collaborating physicians.
  • Demonstrates high-level communication skills enabling effective relationships with patients, families, and health care personnel of various disciplines.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain professional flexibility and adaptability in a collegial environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to efficiently use office computer system and Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Minimum requirement, master’s degree in nursing
  • Maintains clinical excellence through continuing education.
  • Maintains BLS
  • Maintains ACLS
  • Maintains Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Ohio
  • Maintain Board certification
  • Previous NP experience preferred
