POSITION SUMMARY Reports To: Director of Pharmacy Summary: Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications. Must type, adjudicate, and file both new and refilled prescriptions with extensive knowledge of insurance companies/rejected claims. Basic management of inventory, pulling outdated medications and returning unpicked up prescriptions. The technician must also complete duties such as cashiering and customer service. Customer service tasks include running the cash register, balancing the register, answering phones, filing prescriptions in waiting bin, assisting with over-the-counter purchases under the direction of the pharmacist, and checking voicemails. Work Schedule: Must be able to work non-standard hours. SKILLS # ABILITIES Education High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) Experience Certification by the Indiana Board of Pharmacy as either a pharmacy technician or a pharmacy technician-in-training required. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility. Certificates # Licenses Certification by the Indiana Board of Pharmacy as either a pharmacy technician or a pharmacy technician-in-training required. Other Requirements Satisfactory completion of in-house pharmacy technician certification within one year of application to the Indiana Board of Health for technician-in-training certification is required. Previous experience in hospital or community pharmacy is desirable. National certification preferred.
