JOB GOAL: To bridge language barriers inhibiting the academic success of non-English speaking students by providing tutorial assistance; modification in materials or instructional practices.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Meets and maintains contact with ESL child's classroom teacher(s) to determine levels of academic proficiency and how an ESL program can assist the child in achieving.
  2. Designs daily lesson plans in cooperation with classroom teacher(s) that are individualized to meet the academic needs of the student in accordance with State Core Content and Program of Studies that are aligned for individual students' grade level.
  3. Teaches ESL classes throughout K-12 as assigned by the district.
  4. Administers an English, or foreign language proficiency test to determine the child's level of English proficiency.
  5. Provides transitional language instruction that is designed to develop the child's English proficiency.
  6. Plans, develops and administers regular assessments of both the child's academic achievement and his/her English proficiency development.
  7. Plans, develops and administers with the cooperation of the classroom teacher(s) a transitional program/timeline for the student's return to the regular classroom setting.
  8. Provides the classroom teacher(s) with regular reports of student's progress.
  9. Secures appropriate materials for ESL instruction through the school to which the student is assigned.
  10. Develops awareness and understanding of state/federal regulations regarding ESL instruction.
  11. Attends appropriate training programs and professional development activities related to ESL instruction.
  12. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent/Designee.
