Job Summary:

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is recruiting an exceptional fellowship trained gender surgeon. The successful finalist will have a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions demonstrated through research and teaching, execution of scholarly activities and/or patient experience.

The UW SMPH Division of Plastic Surgery includes 13 full time faculty members, 18 integrated plastic surgery residents, 2 research fellows, 7 advanced practice providers, and an administrative staff of 8. The full breadth of plastic surgery clinical care is performed for adults and children including general reconstruction, breast surgery, microsurgery, pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery, gender affirming surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, aesthetic surgery, and migraine surgery. The majority of clinical care occurs at University Hospital (Level One Trauma Center), American Family Children's Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, with additional services at East Madison Hospital, Meriter Hospital, and Madison Surgery Center.

Faculty participate in robust clinical, basic science, and translational research, and are committed to the education of medical students and residents. Care of adult patients who have sustained craniofacial trauma will be part of the required clinical responsibilities. Additionally, the Division has developed and led a successful and sustainable global surgery program and participation is encouraged.

The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 7th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research at the University of Wisconsin. The Department's Office of Clinical Research provides 24/7, 365 day a year clinical trial coordinator support for Clinical Trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.

Responsibilities:

This position will be a part of the vibrant Division of Plastic and Surgery and join an outstanding group of both junior and senior faculty. The selected finalist would be at the forefront of efforts to provide multidisciplinary and comprehensive gender care including the full spectrum of surgical management of adult patients seeking gender affirming surgery. This includes facial feminization surgery, top surgery, and bottom surgery, including penile inversion vaginoplasty and phalloplasty.

The chosen applicant will participate in administrative, and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members. The chosen applicant will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

For appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.

Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
