Rate of Pay: $15.00/hr

Reports To: Building Principal

Position Goal: To assist the Principal with activities to engage parents in the educational process of their children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
  1. Help the school develop a family-friendly school climate.
  2. Develop programs and activities designed to engage families in improving student achievement.
  3. Help teachers and other staff members develop strong partnerships with families and enhance communication between parents and families and the school staff.
  4. Develop and implement effective family involvement strategies and activities to empower students and their families.
  5. Take part in opportunities for professional development.
  6. Participate in and support school and district activities and programs for families.
  7. Help to recruit community partners to become part of the school and district's family involvement program.
  8. Make home visits and telephone calls to parents as deemed necessary by building administrator.
  9. Perform other parent involvement activities as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or its equivalent. Knowledge of parenting goals. Understanding of socioeconomic class and cultural backgrounds of families and how to interpret culture of school to them. Ability to think and act in ways that respect ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity. Knowledge and experience as an assistant or other voluntary experience in school building. Bilingual - English/Spanish required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  1. Ability to follow written and verbal direction.
  2. Ability to read, write and do simple computations.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively.
REASONING ABILITY:
  1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  2. Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks.
  3. Ability to work under supervision and make appropriate work-related decisions.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  2. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.
  3. Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented.
  4. Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  5. Ability to organize classroom setting to efficiently accomplish tasks.
  6. Basic typing of form letters.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk/table for limited periods of time. Stand for limited/extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach and grasp.
