GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Responsible for providing education and administrative support for centralized educational activities in conjunction with the Professional Development Specialist/Coordinator. Assists with designing, implementing, and evaluating professional development activities t the unit and centralized level. Participates in the effective and efficient implementation of the key education processes, annual competence assessment, preceptor development, required ongoing training and assigned programs. Services as a resource and role model for clinical staff. Assists in identifying learning needs and effective activities to meet the needs of clinical staff related to assigned educational programs. Participates in organizational change.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the development and delivery of department specific and centralized educational activities (Educator Role)
  • Assists in development and implementation of orientation programs, in services and continuing education for clinical staff utilizing principles of adult education.
  • Uses efficiently material resources and facilities for effectiveness in clinical education activities.
  • Teaches in specific educational activities/programs that support critical thinking skills and facilitate behavioral change.
  • Assists with the implementation of conferences/seminars for the clinical staff, health programs for the general community.
  • Participates in the measurement and documentation staff competence.
  • Possesses competent knowledge of how to apply adult teaching learning principles in educational activities.
  • Assists with identification of learning needs and implementation educational activities to address learning needs (Facilitator Role)
  • Assist in collecting learning needs data.
  • Uses internal and external resources to facilitate staff education.
  • Facilitates good learning environments and relationship with learners.
  • Assists with coordination of educational activities across departments and disciplines in conjunction with Professional Development Specialist/Coordinator.
  • Provides assistance with the development/implementation of unit based educational activities.
  • Act as a role model to facilitate the change process to improve clinical processes (Change Agent Role)
  • Supports change based on organizational mission, vision, and goals.
  • Assists with the implementation of educational plans of new clinical work practices.
  • Assists staff in coping effectively with change in conjunction with Professional Development Specialist/Coordinator and Unit Deployed Clinical Educations.
  • Models cultural sensitivity when advocating for change.
  • Assists with the evaluation and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Assists with implementation of evidence-based practice into nursing and other clinical professional development education activities (Researcher Role)
  • Assists Professional Development/Practice Specialist to incorporate research findings in educational activities.
  • Participates in data collection.
  • Assist with providing timely reports that can be used for decision-making.
  • Assists the administrative structures to achieve departmental goals (Leader Role)
  • Maintains required documentation and recordkeeping according to policy.
  • Acts as a role model in collaborative work relationships with others.
  • provides ongoing assistance to unit deployed clinical educators to provide professional development.
  • Participates in professional self-development through reading professional journals, attending training, and activities.
  • Supports the maintenance of regulatory requirements, including NPSG's, HIPAA, etc.
  • Provides input into department annual budget.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and committee meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish organizational goals.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum Associate's degree (AS) in nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Five (5) years clinical experience in pediatrics, with two (2) years experience as a preceptor preferred.
  • A minimum three (3) years of education and/or presentation skills preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current Texas Licensure Registered Nurse
  • BLS and PALS required
  • Specialty Certification in clinical area and/or professional development preferred. Certification required upon reaching eligibility.
