Manufacturing Engineer

Position Summary:

This position will be a key member of the engineering team supporting the manufacturing of 3D woven composite engine components. This role encompasses everything associated with fan blade or fan case manufacturing process, including, but not limited to, surface prep, prepreg layup, adhesive bonding, abradable application, vacuum bagging and autoclave cure. You will help support and improve the manufacturing process. In addition, this position will include project management, equipment selection, hands-on manufacturing support, process development, strong communication and extensive documentation. This role will also include support of R&D activities as they arise.

> Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)
  1. Develop a very thorough understanding of the part manufacturing process
  2. * Create and update procedures and work instructions while taking into consideration operator feedback, equipment, process data, and customer requirements
  3. * Lead and support process improvement and cost reduction projects
  4. * Oversee all new and existing reworks that are required to support part manufacturing
  5. * Monitor and update SPC database for current production parts
  1. Work side by side with production to improve the process and successfully train operators
  2. Participate in MRB review of discrepant parts including root cause and corrective actions
  3. Work with data team to develop efficient and useful reporting tools
  4. Summarize, prepare and deliver technical presentations to engineering and management
  5. Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation; coordinate and implement solutions
  6. Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of part manufacturing processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality standards.
  7. Generate manufacturing data reports to support immediate feedback to the operators and generation of Quality documentation
  8. * Monitor production to detect and prevent process drifts
  9. Analyze manufacturing data to assess capability and determine opportunities for process improvements.
  10. Work closely with Quality department to efficiently communicate nonconforming production data
  11. Support the implementation of Lean principles
  12. Create visual management standards to communicate performance
  13. Interact with our French counterparts to report on process improvement or development activities
  14. Requires the ability to comply with documented standards.

Job Specifications
    1. Bachelor's degree in Materials, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant technical degree
    2. 5+ years of relevant experience preferred. If entry level, the candidate must have relevant coursework, or an internship or co-op in a related field.
    3. Strong understanding of composite and adhesive cure cycles is preferred
    4. Comfortable with developing recipes for autoclaves and ovens
    1. Knowledge of composite manufacturing processes and tooling preferred
    2. Majority of time to be spent on the production floor working with equipment, processes and manufacturing personnel
    3. Understanding of Engineering Drawings
    4. Self-starter with the ability to deal with ambiguity and work independently with limited direction
    1. Requires a strict attention to detail and strong project management skills
    1. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
    2. Experience with automation of manufacturing processes is preferred
    3. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    1. Ability to quickly develop an understanding of the current master data environment (including systems, policies, processes, and procedures)
    2. Understanding of LEAN manufacturing concepts and/or 6 Sigma techniques preferred
    3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
    1. Knowledge of and compliance with AS9100C or ISO9001 standards
    2. Ability work independently and as a collaborative team player when required
    3. Ability to travel within the US and internationally (not to exceed 10%).
    1. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds, approximately 10% of a standard work day
Working Conditions
  1. Lighting and temperature are adequate.
  2. Eye protection must be worn in manufacturing areas, approximately 50% of a standard work day.
  3. Work is performed in a factory environment. Employee will be exposed to any number of elements (inside and outside), but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable.
