To work as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in Oregon, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Education: Have a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution
  • Clinical experience: Complete a 400-hour clinical practicum and at least 1,260 hours of supervised clinical experience
  • Praxis exam: Pass the Praxis exam in speech-language pathology
  • English language fluency: If your first language is not English, you may need to submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Test of Spoken English (TSE)
  • License: Obtain a license from the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
If you want to work in public schools, you can practice with a license from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. However, you must meet certain requirements, including:
  • Being licensed and endorsed by the commission before July 1, 2016
  • Practicing solely in the course of your duties as an employee of a school district, charter school, or education service district
  • Complying with ORS 681.360 to 681.375 when supervising speech-language pathology assistants
