Job Description

SUMMARY

The Pediatric Endocrinologist is primarily responsible to provide clinical care for children and young adult patients with endocrine disorders, including both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, growth and pubertal disorders, and disorders of sexual development among others. The Pediatric Endocrinologist will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide the high quality care to include providing evaluation and treatment plan specific to the needs of each patient.

Responsibilities

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage many disorders in children who have metabolic or growth disorders.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage children who have type one diabetes, growth disorders, hypoglycemia, and other disorders relating to the adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary glands.
• Thoroughly evaluates and manages each patient appropriately and documents information completely and on a timely basis.
• Identifies relevant medical issues accurately and uses appropriate procedures and testing
• Completes and maintains problem list, medication list, disease management forms, preventative maintenance flow sheets and other medical record forms
• Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.
• Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, administrative staff and community resources in meeting patient and family needs.
• Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies.
• Management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients.
• Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
• Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
• Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
• May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Graduate from accredited school of medicine required
• MD or DO Degree
• 2 or more years of experience preferred

LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

• Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafter
• DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafter
• Board certified/board eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics with specialty certification in pediatric Endocrinology
