Registered Technologist, Radiology, also known as Rad Tech’s or RT’s, assists the physician with the process of imaging and diagnosing illness. These tasks include the following: capturing the image, obtaining the best quality image, and ensuring the patients are comfortable and safe. The Registered Technologist, Radiology must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient and be sure that they are comfortable and at ease during the procedure. The RT will obtain a high quality image that will be sufficient for thorough examination by the physician and allow for correct diagnosis.

1. Communicate with the patient in a courteous and professional manner in face to face encounters and via the telephone.

2. Provide an effective explanation to patient regarding radiology testing and procedures.

1. Participates with the Provider in the implementation of the plan of care and multidisciplinary patient education.

2. Communicates with other members of the Patient Care Team regarding incoming patient data and reports that require patient notification and treatment interventions.

1. Review and evaluate computer generated information or developed x-rays to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.

2. Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.

3. Explain procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during procedures.

4. Operate or oversee operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.

5. Position and immobilize patient on examining table.

6. Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.

7. Key commands and data into computer to document and specify photograph certain images.

8. Monitor video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality.

9. Monitor patient’s conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physicians.

10. Set up x-ray rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready.

11. Record, process and maintain patient data and treatment records and prepare reports.

12. Measure thickness of section to be radiographed.

13. Take thorough and accurate patient medical histories.

14. Remove, process, and file film.

15. Provide assistance with such tasks as dressing and changing seriously ill, injured patients.

16. Collaborated with other medical team members, such as physicians and nurses, to conduct any requested procedures.

17. Schedule any maintenance and repairs on radiographic equipment with appropriate personnel.

18. Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the essential functions of the Registered Technologist, Radiology.

1. Attends and participates in staff and other JHC meetings as required.

2. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Actively participates in the JHC QI program.

1. Attends all mandatory OSHA Infection control trainings and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including “Universal Precautions”.

2. Abides by all JHC infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.

1. Employee will abide by the Code of conduct as documented in the Corporate Compliance Manual.

2. Must demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to Johnson Health Center and its mission.

1. The incumbent must have graduated from an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.

2. The incumbent must be licensed through the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Health Professions.

3. The incumbent must be registered through ASRT (American Society of Radiologic Technologist).

4. The incumbent must maintain his/her continuing education required to maintain licensure.

5. The incumbent must be computer literate, able to work independently with flexible working hours.

6. The incumbent must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.

7. Must possess excellent communication skill, both oral and written.

8. Ability to perform well in team settings.

The Registered Technologist, Radiology reports to and is supervised by the Director of Nursing and/or the Charge Nurse in the adult clinic.

The Registered Technologist, Radiology’s work performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse in the adult clinic.
