The Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellow provides a unique and supportive 13-month experience, designed to mentor excellent new professionals who are dedicated to serving children in a variety of settings. Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Research and Services and the mentorship of a dedicated team of seasoned speech-language pathologists, the Clinical Fellow (referred to hereafter as “Fellow”) will screen, evaluate, and treat communication and swallowing disorders in children in their home and school environments, as well as in the outpatient clinic setting. The Fellow will collaborate with colleagues in CSCD, UD Health, and the community to develop comprehensive and effective treatment plans which support patients and their care partners. In addition to clinical care, the Fellow will have regular access to on site, high-quality mentorship, including weekly meetings, opportunities to audit coursework related to their caseload, leadership development training, access to departmental continuing education, cutting edge evidence-based research, a world class library of assessment and treatment materials, and support to transition to a more permanent position following the completion of their clinical fellowship. At the completion of the program, the Fellow will have experience with a diverse range of clinical populations and settings, a strong foundation in best practices for pediatric assessment and intervention, and a network of supportive colleagues who are dedicated to their continued professional success. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES: Performs clinical and administrative responsibilities consistent with federal/state regulations, practice setting requirements, and with institutional policy. Provides high-quality services to a diverse range of patients, with a special emphasis on young and school-aged children. Perform patient screenings and evaluations to detect and diagnose communication and swallowing disorders. Treat communication and swallowing disorders. Design tailored treatment plans for the unique needs of each patient. Train and educate care partners on how to best support the patients’ success and facilitate carryover of strategies and functional skills to their home setting. Completes and maintains all documentation and clinical charting in compliance with university and departmental policy and procedures. Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality in matters related to patient care. Participates in service opportunities with the Department, University, and community at large. Supports clinical and administrative objectives of the SLHC. Develops and executes community outreach and education events. Maintains a current and working knowledge of developing practice trends. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Speech-Language-Pathologist in the state of Delaware. Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races. Demonstrate the ability to successfully deliver culturally responsive services. Ability to meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously, while managing competing priorities. Effective communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills. Team-based, interprofessional practice and instructional skills. Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work independently. Ability to think strategically and recognize innovative ideas and opportunities. Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively with a diverse community. Applies knowledge, best practices, policies, and procedures to clinical service opportunities. Ability to plan, develop, direct, implement and evaluate strategic communication plans, programs and activities applicable to a research-centered institution of higher education. Knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends applicable to this clinical care setting. Computer skills to include word processing, email, PowerPoint, Excel, and preferably electronic medical records management systems experience. CPR certification Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
