TITLE:
Occupational Therapist

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree from an Accredited Institution by the American Occupational Therapy Association

New Jersey School Occupation Therapist Certificate

Working knowledge of the principals, practices, and ethical standards of Occupational Therapy; relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations; and regulations; and applicable district policies and procedures.

Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with students, parents, and other educational professionals regarding student concerns and problems.

Ability to consult with school personnel in developing and implementing effective occupational therapy interventions for students.

The skill and ability to communicate- both orally and in writing.

REPORTS TO:
Director of Special Services

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide quality school-based occupation therapy services, which includes but is not limited to assessment/evaluation, intervention/treatment, treatment planning and implementation, discharge planning,-related documentation, and communication between co-workers, professionals (medical and non-medical), and families. Services may be provided through direct and/or consultative approaches.
  • Begin services as appropriate or as dictated by referral
  • Evaluate students and interpret result to determine the need for and type of intervention
  • Interview and observe student and families to obtain and interpret data necessary for planning and conducting interventions.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement treatment plans (including goals, objectives, and activities to meet goals/objectives)
  • Ensure that treatment program supports performance within the student's classroom environment
  • Implement treatment plans in collaboration with others
  • Adapt environment, tools, material, and activities according to the needs of the student and/ or their social/cultural environment
  • Provide family members/caregivers with the knowledge and tools necessary to carry over therapeutic activities with the home environment
  • Monitor the student's response to interventions, re-evaluate as needed, and modify treatment plans as needed
  • Terminate services when the maximum benefit is received and write discharge plans
  • Maintain daily progress notes, goal check lists, communication /conversation logs, quarterly progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge plans
  • Schedule and prioritize (according to efficiency, driving time, mileage, etc.) own workload
  • Maintain and respect work and treatment areas
  • Communicate and collaborate with other professionals (i.e. teachers, psychologists, PTs, speech therapists), family members, caregivers, and other team members.
  • Follow policies and procedures as outlined by the school district, American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics, and the Arizona Board of Occupational Therapy Certification
  • Provide in-service education to team members and the community
  • Identify and pursue own professional growth and development, including participation within professional and community activities
  • Monitor own performance and identify supervisory needs
  • Maintain professional NJ licensure requirements
  • Establish and maintain Medicaid requirements for providing billable services for the district in a timely manner


COMPENSATION:
As negotiated by the Gloucester Township Education Association.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month year

VACATION:
There is no vacation time allotted to this position.

EVALUATION:

Performance of the job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
