Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Oncology Specialist Job Specialty: Oncology Nursing Job Duration: 6 months Shift: 5x8.0, Days 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience in a correctional environment License: Current unencumbered RN License Certifications: Oncology Certification; CPR Certification (BLS through AHA) Must-Have: Willingness and ability to work in a correctional facility environment with the specified physical conditions Job Description: - Assist in the assessment of patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions under the supervision of a Charge Nurse.- Use available resources to plan individual treatment programs, consulting with Charge Nurse(s) and other staff as needed.- Implement individualized treatment programs as directed by healthcare practitioners.- Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps at the beginning of each shift with another staff member.- Apply appropriate safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions.- Respond to emergencies or patient crises according to site policies and procedures.- Administer oral and IV chemotherapy, along with other medication types following proper procedures and techniques.- Obtain body fluid specimens and perform EKGs using appropriate techniques.- Assist healthcare practitioners in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary.- Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by healthcare practitioners.- Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting.- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and supervisory personnel.- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.- Work in a facility that requires adherence to security rules to minimize risk to oneself and others.- Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, requiring adherence to standard precautions and safety practices.This position may also require travel depending on specific needs.
