The Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) line of business within DRS has locations in Dallas and Austin, TX, Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. EOIS develops, manufactures, and supports infrared and electro-optical solutions for soldiers, ground vehicles and airborne platforms. Job Summary
Job Responsibilities
-
Involved with the design, fabrication and modification of mechanical and/or electro mechanical components, sub-systems and systems. May include Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others. Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services. Investigate solutions to product or process problems.

Support and participate in technical activity

Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems
-
May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments
-
Ability to work independently under supervision of others
-
Provide regular reporting of progress and status
-
Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements
-
Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
-
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
-
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
-
Develop prototypes to retire key development risks as directed
-
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
-
May participate in preparation of less complex proposals
-
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related technical degree
-
0-2 years of experience in a relevant engineering/technical field
-
Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
-
Experience/Knowledge with manufacturing methods and processes, factory standards, fabrication processes, and assembly documentation.
-
Excellent grasp of heat and mass transfer
-
Understanding of materials and material properties
-
Design of experiments and practical problem solving
-
Well-developed communication skills, both in verbal presentations and written documentation
-
Ability to work in a team environment
-
Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
-
Ability to read detailed engineering drawings, specifications and familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M
Desired Skills

Knowledge of optical systems
-
Familiarity with cryogenics, vacuum technology, infrared imaging systems, opto-mechanical design, and electromagnetism

Experience using Creo(Pro/E) or equivalent 3D CAD tool
-
Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100
