JOB TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Speech-Language Pathologist is directly responsible for the identification and treatment of speech and language problems in students, and engages in scientific study of human communication by performing the following duties.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors.

Reviews student's file to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available.

Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.

Prepare for and participate in case conferences.

Develop appropriate and quality IEPs for assigned students to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.

Based upon the individual education plans, provides speech, language and communication therapy in a variety of settings.

Evaluates and monitors students.

Reviews treatment plan, and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs.

Maintains records as required by law, NLCS policy, and administrative regulations.

Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.

Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to practice new skills.

Evaluate and/or translate research into practice and understand research design and statistics in sufficient depth to plan and conduct investigations and program evaluations for improvement of services.

Provide support services to parents/guardians as needed.

Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families.

Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents, and/or community.

Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings.

Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data.

Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Valid license as a speech language pathologist with the Indiana Department of Education

Must have an understanding of state and federal regulations serving individuals with disabilities

Knowledge of methods of assessment; systematic processes to collect data, translate assessment results into empirically based decisions about service delivery and evaluate outcomes of services.

Knowledge of speech and language interventions and services to meet students' needs, and the ability to implement and assess their effectiveness.

Knowledge of collaborative and/or consultation models and methods and their application.
