Position Summary:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for performing the accurate delivery of prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plans as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Educate patients on procedures, skincare, side effects, and nutrition.
- Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for various body parts.
- Monitors patient's clinical progress withholds treatment if necessary, and refers patients to a Radiation Oncologist or Lead Radiation Therapist for appropriate intervention.
- Operation of the therapeutic equipment, proper patient positioning, monitoring of the patient during the procedure, and related clerical duties.
- Evaluate and assess treatment machine operations; recognize machine malfunctions and report them to the Lead Radiation Therapist.
- Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families.
- Meet and adhere to strict radiation safety guidelines, internal quality controls, organizational standards, department policies and procedures, and strategic goals.
- Accurately complete and chart all simulation and treatment summaries, reports, and documentation.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Graduated from an accredited Radiation Therapy School.
- Current ARRT and State licensure required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Current BLS license required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Minimum of six (6) months' experience as a staff therapist is preferred; however, willing to train recent graduates.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice, radiation protection, and quality assurance.
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
- Proficient computer software and database skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Very comfortable asking probing questions to patients.
- Must demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient attitude.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Multitasking and proactive problem-solving.

- Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.
- Good general health and stress-coping ability.
