We are currently looking for a Full Time Preservation & Repatriation Specialist to join our Historic Preservation team located at the Department of Culture and Humanities working 8:00AM-5:00PM - Mo Tu We Th Fr.

Summary:
Assists in management of historic preservation and repatriation projects and undertakings of historical and cultural concern.

Responsibilities:
* Complete NHPA Section 106 reviews of incoming projects and prepare correspondence for leadership signature. The reviews will involve reading cultural resources survey reports, conducting research and utilizing geospatial information map layers to determine an appropriate response to include in the correspondence
* Review incoming requests for NAGPRA consultations and prepare a weekly update to be submitted to the director for review
* Maintain a comprehensive database of NAGPRA cases and digital files
* Reviews museum and federal agency inventories of human remains and funerary objects and preparing NAGPRA claim letters to be submitted to leadership for review / approval
* Attend consultations, if assigned by supervisor, and provide detailed reports of meeting outcomes
* Assist in maintaining cooperative and professional relationships with various tribal, federal and state offices, agencies and departments
* Participate in visits to federal agencies, universities, museums and repositories as needed
* When requested assist in repatriation activities that may include handling of repatriated human remains and associated funerary objects
* Prepares reports as needed or requested
* Performs all other duties as assigned

* Works well within a team
* Organizational and time-management
* Able to verbally communicate in a professional and positive manner with other team members, departments, guests and management
* Writes effective communications with team, departments, guests and management
* Prepares role specific reports

Skills:
Essential:
* Basic Computer skills
* Must be familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite of products
* Accurately type 65 words per minute

Experience:

Nonessential:
* 2 years directly related experience

Education:
Essential:
* High School, GED or Equivalent

Nonessential:
* Bachelors Degree in directly related field

Nonessential:
* Bachelor's degree in history, anthropology, archaeology, Native American studies or related field. Four years of related experience in lieu of degree will be considered

Credentials:
Essential:
* Standard Driver's License
* Pass general background check

Working Conditions:

* Light travel
* May work evenings, weekends or holidays
