We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our team at our community-based Oncology Clinic. As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals facing cancer diagnoses.

Job Summary: The Local Float Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) works across our Community-Based Oncology Clinics providing coverage while offering the LVN the opportunity to gain diverse experience and exposure to different patient populations and treatments.

To ensure clarity of scheduling, the Float Licensed Vocational Nurse is primarily aligned to our clinics within Lynwood, Montebello, and occasional supporting at additional sites.

As a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) within oncology, your responsibilities may include:

  • Patient Assessment: Conducting thorough assessments of patients with cancer, including monitoring vital signs, assessing symptoms, and documenting patient history.
  • Medication Administration: Administering medications as prescribed by physicians, including chemotherapy drugs, immunotherapy, and supportive medications for symptom management.
  • Patient Education: Providing education to patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, side effects of therapy, and strategies for managing symptoms at home.
  • Monitoring and Support: Monitoring patients during treatment for any adverse reactions or complications, providing supportive care, and promptly reporting any concerns to the healthcare team.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Collaborating closely with oncologists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
  • Assistance with Procedures: Assisting physicians with procedures such as biopsies, central line care, and other oncology-related interventions.
  • Emotional Support: Offering emotional support and empathy to patients and their families, helping them cope with the emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and interventions in electronic medical records.
  • Adherence to Safety Protocols: Adhering to strict safety protocols for handling chemotherapy drugs and other hazardous materials, ensuring the safety of both patients and healthcare providers.
  • Advocacy: Advocating for the needs and preferences of patients within the healthcare setting, ensuring they receive compassionate and individualized care.
Overall, the role of an LVN in oncology involves providing skilled nursing care, support, and education to patients undergoing treatment for cancer, while also collaborating closely with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes and quality of life.

Education:
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program
  • Current and unrestricted LVN license
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA) or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)
  • Required: I.V. therapy/blood draw certification
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of clinic experience preferred.
  • Previous LPN/LVN work experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Fluency with computers, including a basic understanding of EHR systems.
  • Manual dexterity to use/handle equipment and instruments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to concurrently perform multiple tasks.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and lift 50lbs.
