Non-Medical Therapeutic Respite Support

One Part-Time Position. 10 to 29 hours per week.

Shift work, various hours.

Hiring Range: $19.00 - $20.71 / hour. Depending on education and experience.

This position will remain open until filled.

Minimum Requirements

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum age 21.

Preferred:

• One year's experience working with children with challenging behaviors.

• One year's experience working with children with special needs.

• Current CPR/First Aid, QMAPP, De-escalation certification (CPI/Safety Care).

Position Summary

The Non-Medical Respite Provider offers temporary relief to primary caregivers by providing care and supervision to children with challenging behaviors, and/or special needs and/or disabilities. This role ensures the safety and well-being of the children in the absence of their primary caregivers.

Ariel Clinical Services Mission

To provide safe, nurturing, and supportive environments for children, families, and adults so that they may have the opportunities to develop their strengths, maximize their potentials and fully participate in society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervision and Safety: Monitor and always ensure the safety of the children at all times.

2. Behavior management: Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviors effectively.

3. Activity Planning: organize and engage children in community and educational based activities that supports the child's well-being.

4. Personal care: assist with daily living activities such as feeding, dressing, and toileting as needed.

5. Provide medication as needed following QMAPP standards.

6. Support the caregiver in completing tasks with the child or around the home.

7. Communication: Maintain open communication with the child's caregivers and treatment team and report any concerns or incidents.

8. Documentation: Keep accurate records of care provided and nay behavioral incidents.

9. Represent the agency in a positive and professional manner.

10. Transport individuals in Ariel Vans or personal vehicles, as needed.

11. Attend supervision, training, and team meetings, as directed.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Understanding the stages of child development to help recognize age-appropriate behaviors and developmental milestones.

2. Understanding behavioral management/intervention skills and techniques. Ability to implement behavioral interventions and strategies to manage challenging behavior.

3. Awareness of trauma informed care and attachment and how it could potentially impact behaviors or development.

4. Familiarity with various special needs and how it they impact daily life and behavior.

5. Ability to be patient and flexible and adapt to different situations and behaviors.

6. Strong communication skills to interact with both children and their families to ensure clear and compassionate care.

7. Ability to handle crises calmly and effectively, ensuring the safety of the child and others.

8. Knowledge of the type of work Ariel and other social service agencies participate in.

9. Knowledge of community resources (social, public agency, and information) in order to assist clients in accessing these resources.

10. Basic computer knowledge.

11. Knowledge of rules and regulations related to the program.

12. The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality concerning the youth, their family, background information and treatment.

13. The ability to always represent Ariel in a professional and respectful manner.

14. The ability to be a reliable team player and supportive team member.

15. The ability to provide and role model excellent customer service to the youth and the community.

16. Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, complete a wide variety of tasks in a timely and accurate fashion.

17. Must be available outside of traditional office hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to perform the functions of the position.

18. The ability to demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance as scheduled and requested.

19. The ability to effectively communicate verbally, electronically, and in written format in both individual and group settings.

20. Demonstrate skills in critical thinking, conflict resolution, and creativity.

Education and Experience

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum age 21.

Preferred:

• One year's experience working with children with challenging behaviors.

• One year's experience working with children with special needs.

• Current CPR/First Aid, QMAPP, De-escalation certification (CPI/Safety Care).

Certifications/Licenses

Required:

• Valid Colorado Drivers' License with an acceptable driving record.

• CPR and First Aid

• Agency/Department training

• CPI

• Van Drivers Training - before driving an Ariel owned vehicle.

• Informed Supervision

• QMAP as required.

• Food Handler's certification

• Brief Suicide Intervention Training (BSIT) certification

Physical Demands

1. This position requires that the incumbent be capable of bending, sitting, stretching, and/or reaching regularly for periods up to two hours without a break.

2. This position requires that the incumbent have adequate hand and finger dexterity to properly perform the functions of the position.

3. This position may require lifting regularly up to 25 pounds; pulling or pushing persons in wheelchairs.

4. At times, physical interventions may be required.

5. This position requires the ability to hear and see at a level which is adequate to ensure client and staff health and safety. Adaptive devices are acceptable.

6. This position will require driving.

Work Environment

1. This position can and will be exposed to all environments from quiet to noisy, climate controlled to extreme outdoor heat and cold.

2. May work in the community or in the office.

3. Exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious disease is possible but limited.

4. Exposure to hazardous chemicals is possible but limited.
