Under the direction of the School Administrators and Director of Special Education, the school social worker conducts special education evaluations, IEPs, MDRs, provides school social work services to special education students determined by the IEP, develops and implements positive behavior intervention plans, as well as provides research based strategies to meet students social-emotional needs. The school social worker is responsible for establishing effective and professional rapport with students, parents, and staff while developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to enhance individual student's abilities while maintaining a caseload within the compliance mandates of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education.

Minimum Qualification/Job Requirements:
Masters in Social Work from an accredited university with a School Social Work concentration
School Social Work Licensure/Temporary or Full School Approval for School Social Worker

Other:
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, students and parents
  • Strong commitment to educate students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment
  • Demonstrate self-discipline and initiative
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to special education procedures related to MARSE and IDEA
  • Facilitate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams for interventions, evaluations, determining special education eligibility, services and programs
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff, parents, and administrators
  • Maintain compliance with IEPs for students on caseload and Medicaid
  • Conduct special education evaluations, METs, IEPs, MDRs, and provide school social work services as necessary
  • Implement research based strategies while providing individual and group therapeutic services
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, Crisis Intervention Plans, and evaluate the progress of students in responding to interventions
  • Provide in-classroom behavioral support, coaching, training and strategies for meeting the needs of students
  • Facilitate behavior review meetings and consult with building teams to plan and implement classroom based behavior strategies and interventions
  • Document and collect data for behavior interventions and services provided
