DESCRIPTION

The Program Director, while assuming both faculty and administrative roles, provides administrative leadership for the School of Occupational Therapy and reports directly to the Executive Dean & Vice Provost of the College of Health Professions of the University. The Program Director will join an established College of Health Professions which includes schools and/or programs in Audiology, Dental Health Science, Healthcare Administration and Leadership, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, Physician Associate Studies, and Graduate Psychology. The Director is responsible for leading the faculty in a collaborative endeavor related to all aspects of the academic program for the school, including but not limited to faculty recruitment and development, maintenance of academic standards, curriculum development, budgetary oversight, research and scholarship, external relations and maintenance of accreditation. The Director is also responsible for developing Occupational Therapy clinical services in an interprofessional clinic on the Hillsboro Campus. This is a full-time administrative position on a twelve-month contract. The Program Director works closely with other University administrative officers as the needs of the school dictate.

The School of Occupational Therapy. Established in 1984, the 3-year doctoral program has over 970 living alumni with diverse practices across the United States and in several international countries. The school maintains an enrollment of approximately 110 (35-40 per cohort) students and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). The curriculum is based on a Universal Design for Learning platform, which allows for the student-centered delivery of courses over the course of a semester. Our innovative teaching and activities of daily living simulation lab promote hands-on learning in an engaging setting. An exciting advantage of being in the College of Health Professions is the emphasis on interprofessional collaboration and practice. The Pacific Interprofessional Clinic is housed across the street and new ideas and collaborations are sought and welcomed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Providing visionary leadership and administration of the School of Occupational Therapy.
  • Developing and maintaining a supportive infrastructure congruent with the School, College, and University's Mission and Values.
  • Adhere to ACOTE Standards and maintain all ACOTE reports, curricular mapping, and adherence to mission, values, mission of the School of OT
  • Manage complex budget within a school of multiple health professions
  • Mentoring faculty in teaching, scholarship, and service, in accordance with the University Faculty and Governance Handbook and the profession.
  • Advocating for and supporting staff development.
  • Recruiting and retaining Faculty, Staff, and Adjunct Instructors to meet strategic goals and outcomes of the program.
  • In cooperation with the professional program's admissions staff, coordinates the recruitment and admission of new students.
  • Collaborating with College of Health Professions Deans and Directors to support Pacific University's strategic plan.
  • Overseeing the welfare, academic progress and professional development of all students in the school.
  • Continuously seek and complete scholarly and professional development.
  • Marketing the School and the Occupational Therapy profession at large.
  • Nurturing partnerships with the community and industry to financially support program initiatives and students.
  • Advocating for institutional support to meet strategic goals and outcomes for the school.
  • Representing the School in the College's and University's administrative structure.
  • Representing the School on local, state, and national committees, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrating excellence and innovation in classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction and teaching (as the schedule allows) within appropriate school and CHP courses.
  • Continuing to innovate interprofessional education across the college and supporting the efforts of faculty, staff, and students to enhance interprofessional collaboration across didactic and clinical curricula.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Meet eligibility requirements to be licensed in Oregon as an Occupational Therapist.
  • AOTA member
  • 8 years (minimum) experience as an occupational therapist
  • 4 years (minimum) experience in progressively more responsible academic leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in an academic setting to include administration, budget management and teaching.
  • Excellent leadership skills with ability to motivate and direct faculty, staff and students utilizing collaboration, consensus building and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Skills to lead a dynamic team with a vision of inclusive learning
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure.
  • Documented current expertise in their assigned area(s) of teaching responsibility and student advisement including knowledge of resources for student well-being.
  • Effectiveness in teaching and evaluation of student learning.
  • Knowledge of the curriculum design, application of principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice concepts and the content delivery method (e.g., in-person, distance learning).
  • Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist
  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting.
  • Scholarship (scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning).
  • Understanding of the role of the occupational therapy assistant.
