Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights Job Specialty: Nursing Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12-hour shifts (6:00 PM to 6:30 AM), including every other weekend Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience in corrections License: Current unencumbered RN License Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) Must-Have: Ability to work in a correctional facility environment under the specified physical conditions Job Description: - Assist in assessing the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients in healthcare and housing units.- Plan individual treatment programs, using available resources and consulting with charge nurses and other staff.- Implement individualized treatment programs as directed by healthcare practitioners.- Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps at the beginning of each shift with another staff member and sign count logs.- Implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols.- Respond to codes or patient crises as per site policy and procedure.- Administer medications as per healthcare practitioners' orders and protocols, including IV therapy and other approved routes of administration.- Utilize pharmacy knowledge and available resources to manage medication administrations, including drug reactions and overdoses.- Obtain diagnostic tests and body fluid specimens as per healthcare practitioners' orders and protocols.- Assist healthcare practitioners in medical or minor surgical procedures.- Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by healthcare practitioners.- Document nursing encounters using the SOAP charting method as per policy and procedure.- Communicate information to nursing staff, physicians, health care unit supervisory personnel, and other staff as necessary.- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.- Work in a clean, well-lit environment with fluctuating temperatures, requiring substantial computer use.- Lift and carry equipment and patients, negotiate stairs, reach, or bend frequently.- Follow Standard Precautions and safe handling practices due to potential exposure to blood, body substances, and hazardous materials.This position requires an ability to operate independently within a correctional facility and adhere to all security rules and regulations to minimize risks. Travel may be required depending on specific needs.
