Job description:

The Engineering/Robotics Teacher at Purpose
Built Schools Atlanta will be part of the school's Enrichment/STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) instructional team. Enrichment and STEAM
teachers play a critical role in the context of this school. Students will have
access to one or two enrichment classes each day, creating a unique opportunity
for students to discover their personal passions, enjoy a well-rounded
educational experience, and learn critical STEAM and 21st century competencies.
The Enrichment and STEAM teachers are responsible for crafting courses that
engage students in areas such as PE, Art, Music, Design, Dance, Engineering, or
Technology - or some other passion where the teacher has a distinct expertise.

Per the vision of the school, the Engineering/Robotics teacher will integrate literacy and math foundations into their
courses to ensure the school can close the achievement and opportunity gap for
underserved students and communities. This teacher will also support classroom
teachers with literacy and math during the intervention block of the day, a
brief time during which the school will be "all-hands-on-deck" to focus on
literacy and math.

The Engineering/Robotics teacher works as a
team member both within the classroom, across the team of enrichment teachers,
and in concert with classroom teachers. Teams of teachers will have the
opportunity to plan together, attend professional development together, design
curriculum together, and perfect their craft as educators.

Responsibilities
include:

Effective classroom
instruction

a. Planning, executing, and monitoring enrichment
instruction, including incorporating challenging but age-appropriate ways for
younger students to develop a passion for STEAM.
  1. Fostering collaboration and teamwork between
    students.
  2. Fostering classroom culture that reinforces
    students' intrinsic drive for learning and personal growth.
  3. Leveraging robust research-based curricula,
    resources, and strategies to enhance instruction.
  4. Model how to program and build structurally sound robots using the robotics kits provided and support groups of students n building and programming their own robots.
  5. Teach elementary school students the principles of Robotics, including the functions of power source, sensors, motors and structural members of a robot.
  6. Documents the student's individual and group progress throughout the program.
  7. Support students during competitions for various programs.
Guiding and supporting the school's STEAM program and partnerships

a. Making recommendations to the school's
leadership team on ways to enhance the school's STEAM and enrichment offerings.
  1. Identifying appropriate community partners -
    parents, "artists in residence," competitions, companies, etc. - to support the
    STEAM and enrichment offerings through both informal and formal partnerships.
  2. Identifying areas where grants and additional
    resources will enhance the school's STEAM and enrichment offerings and
    supporting the school's leadership to develop the resulting proposals.
Supporting the math and literacy foundations of the school

a. Where appropriate or necessary, incorporating
effective literacy and math instruction into enrichment classes.
  1. Supporting classroom teachers during
    intervention block with literacy and math, especially through small-group
    instruction.
Personal professional
growth

a. Participating in joint planning during teacher
planning time.
  1. Self-reflecting on teaching practices and seeking
    appropriate help and support from the leadership team.
  2. Further developing individual area of expertise
    in the relevant STEAM and enrichment area.
  3. Collaborating through professional learning
    communities on topics of mutual interest, such as vertical alignment of the
    curriculum, literacy strategies, and assessment practices.
Supporting the team's professional growth

a. When appropriate to the teacher's interests and
strengths, leading joint planning or professional learning communities.
  1. Supporting paraprofessionals, practicum
    students, and any other team members in their professional growth.
  2. Mentoring new or established teachers as needed.
  3. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's required. Master's, Specialist, Doctorate degree preferred. Computer science, math, science or engineering background and/or experience preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: T4-T7 Georgia Certification required.
