Packaging Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:
With guidance and support from the Assistant Distribution Manager, the employee performs duties related to sorting and repacking food items on the Food Bank's automated packaging equipment. Employee trains and interacts with other workers and performs associated distribution center duties. The Food Packaging Lead will oversee the daily operations of the packaging team, including using our automated packing equipment. This role is responsible for utilization and maintenance of automated packing equipment in their area. It ensures that food products are packaged efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The Food Packaging Lead will coordinate team activities, manage workflow, and maintain high standards of quality control.
MAJOR DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to the following:
- Pre-sort, inspect, sanitize, re-sort and package product for distribution;
- Evaluate food products for wholesomeness, following appropriate regulatory guidelines;
- Repackage product;
- Clean and sanitize equipment and work area sufficiently to maintain appropriate food safety;
- Maintain proper records/reports, required batch production reports and testing results;
- Train and supervise team members, including employees, 3rd party contract employees, workforce development participants, and volunteers in a friendly and professional manner;
- Supervise and lead the packaging team, including training & scheduling.
- Coordinate daily packaging activities to meet production targets and deadlines.
- Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials and supplies and coordinate with the procurement team for timely replenishment;
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with HACCP plan and other relevant standards;
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to packaging equipment or workflow;
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, schedule and coordinate 3rd party maintenance technician activities;
- Maintain accurate records of packaging operations, including production logs, quality control reports, and employee attendance;
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance packaging efficiency and reduce waste;
- Provide ongoing cross-training and development opportunities for team members
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Position Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- 5 years' experience running automated packing equipment or equivalent.
- Ability to operate electric pallet jack;
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly;
- Ability to stand for long periods of time;
- Ability to work evenings or weekends;
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and projects and consistently meet deadlines;
- Strong attention detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to changing priorities;
- Ability to work effectively under periodically stressful conditions;
- Good problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work well independently, as well as a member of teams;
- Positive and professional attitude and demeanor;
- Ability to pass a background check;
- Ability to pass random drug testing.
