Position Summary:

The Liens Specialist at Witherite Law Group plays a key role in ensuring that legal and financial obligations related to liens, subrogation, and settlements are properly addressed and resolved. This position involves reviewing legal documents, medical bills, and case files to identify liens or subrogation requirements, verifying that relevant entities (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare) have been notified, and negotiating reductions when necessary. The role also requires effective communication with attorneys, clients, and external vendors to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with lien-related laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze legal documents, medical bills, and records to identify lien-related obligations and requirements.
  • Thoroughly examine the case file and settlement documents to ensure accuracy and identify any existing liens or subrogation.
  • Conduct comprehensive checks to determine if there are any outstanding liens, subrogation or bankruptcy filings that may affect the settlement.
  • Verify that relevant entities, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and/or Tricare, if applicable, have been notified of the settlement, and ensure that you have received the appropriate responses.
  • Follow the attorney's instructions to review and, if necessary, dispute or negotiate reductions for any liens or subrogation associated with the case
  • Use case management system to accurately document the status of liens, ensuring that all information is up to date and accessible to the appropriate parties.
  • If there are specific liens that require additional verification, such as hospital liens, conduct a secondary check to ensure they have been properly addressed before finalizing the payout.
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys, internal departments, external vendors, and clients to address lien-related inquiries or concerns.
  • Maintain organized records of lien-related documentation and correspondence for future reference and audit purposes.
  • Stay informed about changes in lien laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Legal Studies, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience as a legal closing specialist, subrogation analyst, settlements coordinator, lien processer, or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of lien and subrogation laws, regulations, and legal principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Physical Requirements:
  • Office environment with normal business hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions.
  • Stand/Sit - Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
  • Walk - This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, office machinery, etc.
  • Use of hands/fingers to handle or feel - constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as a copy machine/printer.
  • Climbs stairs - May occasionally ascends/descends the stairs to get to other floors, cafeteria and parking area.
  • Carry weight/lift - Occasionally moves supplies weighing up to 10 pounds for various presentation and event needs.
