We are 501(c)3 nonprofit, non-denominational Christian Rescue Mission. We consider every position one of ministry and a vital part of team, and therefore it's important that all staff agree to our Statement of Faith. Our primary programs include but are not limited to emergency food and housing, transitional housing, rent assistance, and addiction recovery.

Open Door Mission is a 501c3 religiously exempt nonprofit. While religious affiliation is not a requirement of this internship opportunity,
the primary work environment is within a non-denominational, Christian rescue mission that regularly offers opportunity to staff and
clients for Christian development in addition to our regular program curriculum.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

This internship is an excellent opportunity for AS or BS students pursuing degrees in human services, social work, addiction recovery, psychology, or sociology and is placed in either our men's or women's emergency shelter. You'll gain valuable resume experience in performing intake and documentation, housing placements, mental health or chemical dependency referrals, community collaboration and learning an electronic records system. For students participating with Open Door Mission for 1 semester you will shadow a case manager or supervisor and provide daily support. For students participating for 2 semesters you will get an opportunity to lead a case with oversight from an MSW case manager supervisor.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent research and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work professionally with individuals are various backgrounds
  • Computer literate, ability to use basic office equipment and software systems for communication and documentation.
  • Interest in homelessness, nonprofits, and/or faith-based organizations
  • Enrolled in a 2- or 4- year program, studying human services, public policy or related field

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Assist in the implementation and supervision of recreational activities, including but not limited to meals, chapel, soke breaks, programming, bed count, and showering.
  • As needed, collect, verify and secure all necessary documentation for residents and determine potential barriers that may impact housing placements.
  • Regularly practice adherence to facility and program requirements.
  • Under direction of manager, supervisor, or case manager, may provide linkage/referrals to community resources.
  • Under direction of manager, supervisor, or case manager, may facilitate a group for mental health, social, spiritual, recreational, or housing, and other basic needs.
  • Under direction of manager, supervisor, or case manager, may assist in research of community resources

Schedule: various days 5pm-10:30pm

Status: temporary/1-2 semesters
