Concrete Journeyman - Kingsport, TN

Essential Functions:
  • Build and set up forms for edge of slab, sidewalks, or walls.
  • Check forms for proper construction.
  • Verify trueness of form structure, using plumb bob and level.
  • Install wire welded fabric or re-enforcing bar.
  • Layout and install of different types of joints - ex. expansion, construction, and contraction).
  • Spread, level, and smooth concrete to proper elevation and pitch.
  • Install embedded members in freshly poured concrete - ex. anchor bolts, steel plates, angle iron).
  • Apply different types of finishing techniques - ex. broom and troweled).
  • Grade and prep subgrade.
  • Tooling expansion joints and edges.
  • Prepare damaged areas of concrete. Build and secure forms for proper bonding and shape.
  • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and surface retardants when required.
  • Proficient use of a level (including spirit & laser type levels) and transit.
  • Follow established safety rules and standards.
  • Keep work areas clear of construction debris.
Job Duties Include:
  • Execute various minor construction projects as required
  • Willingness and ability to work various shifts and overtime on short notice, to meet businesses' needs.
  • Maintain equipment & clean around workstations.
  • Interface with supervisor &/or manager to give progress updates as required
  • Able to work outdoors in the elements
  • Work in tight spaces - physically able to climb up and down safely in proximity of process equipment.
  • Elevated work > 4' - fall protection required
Requirements:
  • Arrive at work on time, as scheduled, consistently, reliably, & complete each shift
  • Follow all safety rules and standards for the company and for the site
  • Understand and follow Instructions from the direct supervisor

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The job requires occasionally remaining on one's feet in an upright position without moving for long periods of time, occasionally moving about on foot for long periods of time, remaining in a seated position for long periods of time, and/or climbing stairs, stepladders, extension ladders and scaffolding ladders. The job also requires the ability to raise or lower an object of approximately 5-50 pounds from one level to another, the ability to transport an object of up to 50 pounds a distance of up to 10 yards, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder, the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly so that an object moves away from the force, and/or the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly so that an object moves toward the force.

Must be capable of operating a standard 1/2-ton pick-up for occasional delivery and pick-up of materials and personnel and hold a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle operator's license issued by the state of residence, and the manual dexterity necessary to operate a standard desktop computer keyboard.
