Job Description:
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for collaborating with Physicians and Nurses in planning and implementing the patient plan of care and delivery of cardiopulmonary services; operating, monitoring and maintaining complex ventilator support systems/devices; patient assessments; diagnostic procedures; and oxygen therapy. As a rural Critical Access Hospital, this position will assist in individualizing respiratory care for a large scope of patients from Neonates to Geriatric.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Patient Care
• Develops the Respiratory Care Plan by working with the patient/family and interdisciplinary team.
• Individualizes Respiratory interventions to achieve desired outcomes based on orders, protocols, standards, and medical diagnosis. Seeks Physician consultation when unable to achieve the desired results from prescribed treatments/modalities.
• Implements and coordinates the prescribed Respiratory Care Plan.
• dministers prescribed Respiratory medications and therapeutics in a manner consistent with knowledge of purpose, side effects, contraindications, and established guidelines.
• ccurately uses and applies Respiratory equipment and supplies.
• Manages clinical emergencies effectively by obtaining an effective airway and instituting CPR as required.
• Uses age related concepts, body size, and preexisting conditions in implementing Respiratory care and therapeutics as demonstrated by adjusting medications, responding to ABG results, and equipment selection.
• Performs ongoing evaluation of patient's Respiratory condition and responses to the Respiratory Plan of Care.
Patient Documentation
• Documents desired outcomes/interventions for each respiratory problem listed on the Plan of Care.
• Documents prescribed Respiratory medications/therapeutics and patient responses.
• ssures all Respiratory modality/therapy orders are documented, accurate, and complete in the EMR.
Patient Education
• Utilizes all practical opportunities to educate the patient and their families.
• Involves patient's families and significant others as an essential piece of patient centered care.
• ssesses patient's understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Graduate of a two-year or four-year AMA accredited school of Respiratory Therapy.
• WA DOH Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
• merican Heart Association BLS certification at the time of application and maintained while employed.
• CLS, PALS and NRP within 60 days of hire and maintained while employed.
• Minimum of two years of experience in hospital setting.
Preferred
• Registry eligible or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is primarily worked in a clinical environment. The position will require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds. The position will require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.
The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
