About the Position
The Labor/Delivery Registered Nurse at Meadville Medical Center assists with all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth before, during, and after labor. The L & D Registered Nurse will conduct prenatal visits, teach childbirth preparation classes, monitor contractions and fetal heartbeat during labor, administer medications, and assist with any complications that arise. Following delivery, you will perform tests on the newborn and guide the mother through recovery and infant care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the New Life Unit
- Provide leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel
- Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients and their families, and community services for patient care outcome and discharge planning
- Assess and provide appropriate education based on the patient and family needs
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities
- Utilize all available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care
- Identify growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations
- Serve as a role model or preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel

Requirements
- Completion of an accredited School of Nursing
- BSN preferred
- Current Registered Nurse License
- State of Pennsylvania or Compact State license
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider card
- ACLS certification within 6 months of hire
- 1 year of acute nursing experience, preferred
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certified within 1 year of hire
