Transportation Engineering Division The ideal Transportation Engineering candidate has hands-on experience applying advanced engineering principles and practices in traffic safety and transportation systems management and operations. Experience supervising teams, including personnel, consultants, and contractors, in developing and executing plans for transportation infrastructure, including, but not limited to; traffic signals, streetlights, signs/markings, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This individual is a skilled communicator and team player, capable of serving as the City's representative to internal departments, peer agencies, consultants, and other relevant organizations. Additionally, the individual will play a key role in strategic transportation studies, informing future funding opportunities, and leading the charge in applying for and securing state, regional, and federal grant funding opportunities to support the City's transportation programs and initiatives. Supervision Received and Exercised Receives general direction from higher level management staff. Acts as a formal supervisor, exercising direct supervision, including selecting new employees, monitoring and formally evaluating employee performance, and participating in the discipline and termination of employees. Examination Process: A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list and must be worked on individually by the applicant only. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years. Experience: One year of professional (post-license) civil engineering experience in one or more of the following areas, depending on assignment: sanitary sewer planning, transportation planning, roadway planning, construction management, design, wastewater treatment design, flood control engineering or traffic engineering. Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in civil engineering, or a field closely related to the essential functions. May substitute combination of equivalent education and experience. The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime related experience as equivalent to one year of education. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a licensed civil engineer in any state on the date of application, and acquisition of certificate as a licensed civil engineer in the state of Nevada within six months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter. For Traffic Engineering assignments: Possession of a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification from the Transportation Professional Certification Board, Inc., is desirable.
